Strengthening of industrial operations
Baika Colombia inaugurates avocado packing plant
Located in El Retiro, Antioquia (2,000m²), it processes 10-14 t/h and stores 7 containers of avocado daily to boost its export.
The facility represents an important step in the company's growth strategy, which after seven years of operation in the country has established itself as one of Colombia's leading avocado exporters.
The new infrastructure has an operational area of 2,000 square meters and was designed to strengthen process control, ensure high quality standards and support the projected growth of the operation over the next few years.

How is the new avocado packing plant equipped?
The facility is equipped with four processing lines and has a capacity of between 10 and 14 tons per hour . It also has logistical space to store up to seven containers of finished product per day.
Initially, the operation will focus on packing avocados for export and managing selected fruit destined for the domestic market.
“After seven years of operating in Colombia, having become one of the country’s top five exporters and with all the projected production growth towards the end of 2026, we owed ourselves —and we owed it to our producers— our own operation that will reaffirm our image and the quality of our work,” said Sergio Plata, manager of Baika Colombia.
This infrastructure inauguration goes hand in hand with other technological and agricultural innovations that the company is promoting in its fields, such as its recent commitment to assisted pollination in a large part of its orchards.
The location of the plant in eastern Antioquia, one of the main producing areas with more than 5,000 hectares planted, will allow the company to strengthen its ties with local farmers and optimize the entire supply logistics.
Impact on regional employment and international markets
The launch of this new operation will also have a significant impact on regional employment. Baika Colombia is currently hiring more than 60 people to lead the packing operations, a number that could double as export volumes to different destinations increase.
According to Juan Camilo Restrepo, plant manager at Baika Colombia , this investment represents an opportunity to further strengthen the Colombian avocado production chain and expand its presence in international markets. The company currently supplies strategic destinations such as the United States, Europe, and Argentina .
Protecting the fruit during these post-harvest stages is vital to the business, especially during complex weather seasons at a regional level .
Quality control in the avocado industry
With this new infrastructure, Baika seeks to reinforce critical aspects to ensure success at the destination, such as strict temperature control, complete traceability from the orchard, efficient inventory management and optimal care of the fruit throughout the export process.
The plant will also complement the operations that the company already carries out in Chile and Mexico , strengthening its regional strategy and its commitment to quality and the global development of the industry , offering very good quality avocados 365 days a year to all its customers.
