Valencia reinforces its commitment to avocados with a growing harvest
The Lamb Hass variety harvest is coming earlier and a 10% increase in production is expected compared to last year.
The avocado season in the Valencian Community is entering its crucial phase with the harvest of Lamb Hass, the variety that accounts for more than 60% of regional production. The Valencian Farmers' Association (AVA-Asaja) and the Avocado Producers' Association (Asoproa) estimate a 10% increase in the harvest, reaching 23,000 tons, which represents more than 25% of national production. Factors such as new plantings, water availability, and low pest incidence have contributed to this growth.
Due to earlier ripening, the Lamb Hass avocado harvest will begin in early March, ahead of schedule. Agricultural associations are urging producers to maintain optimal quality and ripeness to strengthen the image of Valencian avocados in the market. Consumption continues to rise, with a 13% increase in the last year and an 80% penetration rate in Spanish households. To reinforce its presence, the "Avocados Comunidad Valenciana CV" seal is being promoted and is already available in supermarkets.
AVA-Asaja and Asoproa also insist on increased vigilance against theft and on advancing research on varieties and cultivation techniques that allow for improved productivity and sustainability, with strategies focused on the efficient use of water and the mitigation of climate change.
