This Friday, August 21, Peru commemorates
National Peruvian Avocado Day , a date intended to recognize the development of a product that has managed to position the country among the main protagonists of the world industry.

The celebration was established in 2025 by the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI) through Ministerial Resolution No. 292-2025-MIDAGRI, setting the third Friday of August each year as a day to highlight the relevance of the avocado and the work developed by its entire value chain.

The declaration represents a recognition of producers, exporters and other actors who have accompanied the growth of an industry that during the last decades has expanded its presence in international markets.

A date to recognize the entire chain

The positioning achieved by Peruvian avocados is the result of a chain that begins long before the fruit reaches the destination markets.

Behind every campaign lies the work of producers, agricultural workers, nurseries, packing plants, exporters, logistics operators and professionals who participate in the various stages necessary to bring the fruit from Peruvian fields to consumers in different parts of the world.

That is precisely why the commemoration of this date in Peru also seeks to highlight the contribution of an activity linked to rural employment, productive development and the generation of commercial opportunities for Peru.

Peru, a key player in the international market

The Hass avocado has become one of the flagship products of Peruvian agricultural exports and its international presence continues to be a relevant part of the global supply.

Europe, the United States, Asia, and Latin America are part of a trade map that has allowed Peru to develop an industry increasingly connected to international markets.

This growth also presents new challenges. Competition between origins, higher demands for quality and condition, sustainability, and the need to continue developing markets are forcing the industry to evolve season after season.

In this context, the National Day of the Peruvian Avocado also represents an opportunity to promote domestic consumption, bring the product closer to new consumers and continue strengthening its positioning both within and outside the country, one of the objectives set when establishing this commemoration.

A first celebration with an eye to the future

One year after the declaration, this August 21st the date arrives for the first time on the calendar of the Peruvian industry.

More than just celebrating the results achieved, the day allows us to recognize the path taken by the sector and the people who have made it possible, as a new stage begins for an industry that continues to expand its international presence.
