The third season of avocado imports from Tanzania begins

Avocado consumption in India has experienced remarkable growth, according to Abdul Kadir Memon, director of the fruit importer Abacate International. He notes that the avocado market has shown considerable growth in recent years, indicating a continued expansion in market size, a result of efforts to educate Indian consumers about the many benefits of this fruit.

Memon highlights the focus on avocado affordability in the Indian market as a key factor in their success. Furthermore, they emphasize their successful market entry and their intention to change how avocados are perceived, purchased, and enjoyed in the country. Abacate International has focused on importing high-quality avocados from multiple locations, including Tanzania, New Zealand, Peru, and Chile, but emphasizes their close collaboration with Tanzanian producers, which guarantees superior quality, consistent availability, and significant volumes.

While they are exploring opportunities in the Kenyan market, their primary focus remains Tanzania due to its logistical efficiency, enabling cost-effective shipments and a longer shelf life. Despite a limited supply at the start of the season, they plan to increase capacity to meet demand in the coming weeks, maintaining stable and affordable prices. Now in their third season, with a strong presence in several cities, their goal is to establish themselves as the leading avocado brand in India.
