Quindío boosts avocado exports with certifications and regional growth

The department recorded an increase of over 30% in shipments and reinforces its quality standard with 25 new properties certified in BPA.

Quindío solidified its position as a hub for the avocado industry in Colombia with a Regional Seminar that brought together more than 1,100 attendees, including producers, trade associations, public entities, academics, and exporters. During the event, led by the Colombian Agricultural Institute (ICA), 25 farms were certified in Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), strengthening traceability and compliance with the phytosanitary standards required by the international market.

In 2024, Colombia exported more than 158,000 tons of avocados, of which approximately 30% originated in the departments of the Coffee Region—Risaralda, Quindío, and Caldas. Quindío alone registered growth exceeding 30% in its shipments between 2024 and 2025. Currently, Colombian avocados are present in more than 40 markets, including the United States, the European Union, Japan, China, and South Korea.

The expansion strategy is also reflected in the US market, where shipments reached an all-time high of 85 million pounds in the first half of 2025. The launch of the “Avocados From Colombia” brand aims to reinforce the product's origin and solidify its presence in a key market, driving sustainable and competitive growth for the industry.
