Prices for medium-sized avocados have shown greater stability than in the last 3 years.
The data compiled by the Avobook Report for the current season reveals a particular trend in the price behavior of some large avocado sizes in the United States. This is because prices have shown greater stability compared to the fluctuations experienced in 2022 and 2023.
This is the case, at least, when taking as a reference what has happened between 2022 and 2024, with the .48 caliber.
The charts that track price movements between January and October show a significant fluctuation in the values displayed in 2022, compared to the more stable curve of 2024. In fact, in the first half of 2022, prices were higher than they were this year. This continued until the end of the Mexican season.
From then on, they never returned to the same level, as they fell below the values of that same period, both in 2023 and 2024.
Looking at the data, it's clear that the current season has been characterized by overall stability, with relatively small price swings between the highest and lowest points. The highest price this year occurred during week 26, when a 25-pound box reached $71. The lowest price was $33. However, in 2022, the gap between these two highs was much wider, with the box trading at $87 before falling to $23.50.
The key factor influencing these trends has been the volume of fruit exported to the United States during the analyzed periods. During the first half of 2022, the quantity was lower than that shipped in 2023 and 2024. In fact, this year's price stability mirrors the stability seen in import volumes, a situation radically different from that of 2022.
The numbers show that, that year, the week with the highest number of weekly shipments, including land and sea shipments, was 1610 containers/trucks; and the lowest number was 629. While in 2023 and 2024, the difference is much smaller, as the extremes of shipments have been 1936 versus 960, in 2023; and 1754 versus 1058, this year.
The data collected by Avobook definitely shows that the stability of the current season contrasts with the significant fluctuations that the United States market experienced two years ago.
