They will strengthen phytosanitary protocols, product monitoring, and sustainable practices for agriculture and avocado growers in producing areas.

Technical and scientific experts from Mexico's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, along with avocado producer and packing associations, will form a commission to strengthen the health, traceability, and sustainability of avocado production, aiming to maintain its success in national and international markets. This initiative, to be implemented in phases, involves government specialists in plant health, soil management, sustainable agriculture, and efficient water use, who will collaborate with producers and packers starting in January 2024.

In a meeting between the Secretary of Agriculture, Víctor Villalobos Arámbula, and directors of the Association of Avocado Producers and Exporters of Mexico (APEAM), the importance of the commitment of associations with small and medium-sized producers was emphasized, highlighting APEAM's leadership in this process.

The Secretariat, with the support of institutions such as INIFAP and SIAP, has established maps of productive potential for avocados, without expanding the agricultural frontier, seeking to generate value and well-being for producing families.

Emphasis was placed on the rigor of export certifications, following national and international regulations to preserve the sustainability of avocados and strengthen preventive measures in the face of growing international demand.

APEAM, supported by health authorities for 26 years, has complied with international traceability regulations. Regarding sustainability, it was noted that more than half of the orchards in Michoacán and Jalisco do not require irrigation, contributing to the optimal use of water.

The creation of the working group aims to optimize production and packaging processes based on science, increasing the sector's competitiveness and strengthening the reputation of Mexican avocados. APEAM, with thousands of producers and packing plants, has positioned Mexico as a world leader in avocado production, exceeding two and a half million tons annually.
