Phartec Produce: The young Peruvian exporter leading the European Hass avocado market

In just a few years of operation, Phartec Produce, a Peruvian company where Mario Bazán is a partner and general manager, has achieved a feat that few in the avocado industry could have anticipated: positioning itself as one of Peru's leading exporters so far this year.

Its performance has been particularly outstanding in Spain, where it leads shipments during the early sales window. This rise is not due to a stroke of luck, but rather to a combination of planning, reliable partnerships, and a firm commitment to quality and sustainability at every link in the supply chain.

Phartec Produce achieved first place in Peruvian Hass avocado exports to Spain at the close of week 16. This success was made possible by the team's accurate market analysis and a shared commitment with its clients, even when the landscape seemed unfavorable due to the presence of other major competitors such as Morocco and the Spanish market itself. "The quality of the fruit upon arrival was crucial. It allowed us to maintain a strong and favorable supply in an uncertain environment," says Mario Bazán.

A model based on trust and field

Despite not owning its own fields, Phartec Produce has built a strong network of over 150 partner producers, ranging from small farmers in the highlands to medium-sized producers with plots of 40 to 60 hectares. This diversity not only guarantees a continuous flow of quality fruit but also reflects the company's social and decentralized approach.

“The work in the field didn't begin with Phartec Produce. It's the result of years of building loyalty and providing technical support, promoting ethical agriculture, free of pesticides and heavy metals,” explains Bazán. One of the pillars of the model is ensuring that the fruit is harvested with the appropriate dry matter content, a criterion they consider non-negotiable. This is complemented by ongoing technical service, financial support, certification management, and a strict payment policy that provides stability for their partners.

In a market dominated by large plantations, Phartec Produce has managed to become a reliable partner for international buyers thanks to a constant supply and a focus on quality, both of the product and the service.

Phartec Produce's success also lies in its ability to understand the demands of its target markets. From field preparation to post-harvest handling, the entire process is designed to ensure the fruit arrives in optimal condition. "It's a year-round effort," Bazán emphasizes. The company maintains constant communication with its clients, with regular visits to its main trading partners in Europe, allowing them to identify opportunities for improvement and implement adjustments quickly.

One of the major challenges of the 2025 season will be the concentration of fruit between May and July, caused by the overlap of harvests in regions like Olmos and La Libertad. This peak supply will require precise logistical coordination and a flexible commercial strategy to avoid oversupply that could impact prices. For Bazán, the key will be maintaining creativity and strengthening strategic alliances.

Beyond the avocado: a long-term vision

While Hass avocados have been the initial engine of Phartec Produce's growth, the company is already working on diversifying its product offerings. It currently exports fresh green asparagus and is preparing to add mandarins, pomegranates, and Tahiti limes to its product line, the latter of which is currently being planted in the Piura region.

“Growth is in our plans, but it must be organic and sustainable,” Bazán emphasizes. Phartec Produce’s goal is not to top rankings, but to establish itself as a reliable partner in the regions where it operates, building long-term relationships that benefit both producers and customers.

According to its general manager, the company's most important asset is its team. "Many of us have been working together for years in different companies. That human capital is what makes the difference," he concludes.

In a global landscape marked by fierce competition, climate volatility, and pressure for responsible agricultural practices, Phartec Produce represents an exemplary case of how to combine business acumen, social commitment, and operational excellence to climb the ranks in record time. Peru is already a key player in the European avocado market; now, companies like Phartec Produce are beginning to define how that game is played.
