Peru exceeds 1,000 weekly containers of avocados and consolidates its dominance in Europe
During week 17, Peru exported 1,029 containers of avocados, registering a 6% increase compared to the previous week and 40% more than in the same period last year. This week's volume far exceeds historical levels, considering that in 2023 the 1,000-container-per-week mark was reached several weeks later, near the middle of the year.
Although it remains to be seen whether this trend will continue throughout the season, recent figures confirm that the volume of Peruvian exports continues to grow.
Regarding destinations, Europe accounted for 70% of exports during week 16, followed by Asia with 12%, the United States with 10%, Chile with 3%, and other markets that made up the remaining 4%. This dominance in Europe was also reflected in the market share of Peruvian fruit, which this week comprised 53% of the total available on that continent.
Regarding harvest conditions, Alfredo Lira, in a recent article, highlighted that during Holy Week there was a reduction of between 25% and 30% in the estimated harvest. However, he noted that this decrease was less than the previous year, due to slower fruit ripening and a gradual development of dry matter.
