Peru accelerates its avocado exports with 62% growth, but the weather could work against it

Peruvian avocado exports saw a significant increase in week 13, with a total of 622 containers shipped, representing a 62% growth compared to the previous week. This volume keeps Peru practically on par with last year's levels, just 1% lower.

The European market remains the primary destination, absorbing 60% of shipments, followed by Asia with 25%. Chile and the United States each account for 5%, while other markets in the Americas represent 4%.

While weekly growth is consistent, volume stability in the coming weeks will largely depend on weather conditions. Alfredo Lira has noted that abrupt weather changes have delayed fruit ripening in the north of the country, which could compress the harvest in May and June. This scenario would lead to a sudden oversupply and a possible drop in market prices.
