Frozen Peruvian avocados arrive in China in first-ever shipment
The shipment marks a milestone in the trade relationship between the two countries and expands Peru's exportable offerings to the Asian market.
On September 11, the first shipment of frozen Peruvian avocados arrived in Shanghai, a result of agreements signed during the APEC Economic Leaders' Week in 2024, when sanitary protocols between Peru and China were consolidated. This shipment, acquired by the Ting Hsin Group, includes 60 containers with 20 tons each, strengthening the presence of Peruvian products in the Asian market.
The protocol stipulates that the fruit must be kept at a core temperature of -18°C or lower during storage and transport, in addition to complying with strict food safety and plant quarantine standards required by China. The reception ceremony was attended by the Consul General of Peru in Shanghai, David Gamarra, and Bernardo Muñoz, representative of the Peruvian Trade Office, who highlighted the quality and nutritional value of Peruvian avocados, as well as the growing acceptance of products such as mangoes and blueberries in Asia.
China has established itself as a strategic partner for Peru, with agricultural exports reaching US$420 million annually. In addition to avocados, other key products include blueberries, fresh grapes, and, more recently, pecans, whose first shipment was also certified by SENASA, further strengthening the trade relationship between the two countries.
