Peruvian frozen avocados accelerate their global expansion with strong export growth

Between January and July 2025, Peru exported 20,000 tons of frozen avocados worth US$58 million, an increase of more than 50% compared to the previous year. The product is consolidating its position as a strategic alternative for diversifying markets and adding value to the agribusiness sector.

Peruvian frozen avocado exports surged in the first seven months of 2025, with a 51% increase in value and a 55% increase in volume. The recent shipment to Shanghai marked a milestone for the agribusiness sector, opening new opportunities in Asia, while Europe remains the primary destination. Belgium, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom account for nearly half of the exported volume, with increases exceeding 40% in all cases.

This dynamism stems from key factors such as the distinctive quality of Peruvian fruit, strict adherence to phytosanitary standards, and favorable growing conditions. Furthermore, the frozen format extends shelf life, allows for the utilization of surplus production, and facilitates serving both the processing and retail sectors. This positions Peru not only as an exporter of fresh fruit but also as a supplier of high-value processed foods to demanding markets.

Despite its current positive performance, the sector faces challenges in sustainability and competitiveness. Climate variability and rising production costs necessitate improved water management, investment in technology, and the strengthening of value chains. With Asia emerging as a key market and the global trend toward processed superfoods, Peruvian frozen avocados are poised to become a strategic driver of growth for the national agribusiness sector.
