Morocco reaches a historic record for Hass avocado exports in 2025 with 112,000 tons

Morocco consolidates its position as one of the main players in the international avocado market, registering a new export record in the 2025 season. According to official data from Morocco Foodex, the country has exported a total of 112,000 tons of Hass avocados, far exceeding the figures achieved in previous years and confirming the strong growth dynamic that the sector is experiencing.

Morocco's rise as an avocado exporter has been meteoric in recent years. During the 2023-2024 season, export volume reached 56,700 tons, already representing a significant increase compared to the previous year. In 2024, exports surpassed the 100,000-ton mark for the first time mid-year, marking a turning point that has been fully consolidated this year with 112,000 tons, according to the most recent figures provided by Morocco Foodex and corroborated by industry operators.

The European market remains the primary destination for Moroccan avocados. Exports have been concentrated mainly in three countries: approximately 40 percent of the volume has gone to the Netherlands, another 40 percent to France, and the remaining 20 percent to Spain. This distribution reflects both geographical proximity and the strong demand in Europe for Moroccan Hass avocados, prized for their quality, flavor, and the country's ability to supply markets during strategic supply windows.

Within this context of widespread growth, Moroccan companies like Mavoca have also registered record figures. According to its manager, Yassin Chaib, the company has exported 8.2 million kilos this year, equivalent to 8,200 tons. This volume represents almost double the company's previous best record.

“For us, humbly, this is a very important figure; we have practically doubled the volume,” said Chaib, who highlighted the company’s effort to continue consolidating its position in an increasingly competitive market.

Morocco's rise as an avocado supplier is due to several factors. The combination of favorable agro-climatic conditions, continuous investment in agricultural technology, modern logistics infrastructure, and proximity to major European consumption centers has allowed the country to gain competitiveness and position itself as a solid alternative to other traditional sources such as Mexico, Peru, Colombia, and Chile.

The 2025 performance confirms that Morocco has not only consolidated its growth in the avocado sector but also continues to position itself as a strategic player in supplying this fruit to international markets. The outlook for the coming seasons remains optimistic, driven by the expansion of new plantations and the sustained interest of European buyers in Moroccan avocados.
