Avocados from Peru pays tribute to the U.S. Navy with a breakfast aboard the USS Bataan during Fleet Week in New York, highlighting the bilateral relationship between Peru and the United States.
On May 24, Avocados from Peru honored the U.S. Navy with a magnificent avocado breakfast aboard the USS Bataan during Fleet Week in New York. Vice Admiral Douglas Perry, Commandant of Joint Forces Command Norfolk and U.S. 2nd Fleet, along with Captain Albert Head, welcomed the Avocados from Peru team, who served a superfood breakfast to the sailors in honor of Memorial Day.
This was the third time the U.S. Navy invited Avocados from Peru to serve breakfast during Fleet Week in New York and the second time aboard the USS Bataan. Xavier Equihua, president and CEO of the Peruvian Avocado Commission, and Víctor García Toma, Peru's ambassador to the United Nations, represented Peru. Chefs Giuseppe and Mario Lanzone of Peruvian Brothers prepared the breakfast for the sailors.
"It was an honor for us to be invited back to serve breakfast to the sailors of the USS Bataan during New York Fleet Week and Memorial Day," said Equihua. "Serving healthy avocado dishes to these extraordinary people is a small token of our appreciation for their sacrifices."
This event highlighted the strong bilateral relationship between Peru and the United States, celebrating the cultural and culinary connections that unite the two nations. The breakfast, featuring Hass avocados from Peru, provided the sailors with a nutritious and delicious start to their day as they participated in Fleet Week activities. This year's event, which celebrated the 36th anniversary of Fleet Week in New York, further strengthened the bonds between the military and the community.
