Kenya projects a 2026 of intense sectoral activity to strengthen its avocado industry
The Avocado Society of Kenya (ASK) has defined an ambitious work agenda for 2026, with a clear focus on strengthening production, market integration, and the international positioning of Kenyan avocados. Throughout the year, the association will implement a series of actions aimed at consolidating the sustainability and profitability of the sector, with a special emphasis on supporting small-scale producers and aligning with the demands of global markets.
The annual plan includes a combination of technical activities, training sessions, and active participation in international fairs and events. Locally, the association will promote numerous field days and regional exhibitions in key production areas such as Kiambu, Nyeri, Bungoma, Meru, Nakuru, Eldoret, Kisii, Makueni, and Bomet. These initiatives aim to strengthen production capacities through knowledge transfer in Good Agricultural Practices, nursery management, pruning, and pest and disease control, as well as fostering organization and direct exchange among producers, technicians, and other stakeholders in the supply chain.
In parallel, ASK will continue to strengthen its role as a technical coordinator for the sector, developing specialized training programs and support processes aimed at improving productivity, fruit quality, and compliance with international food safety and social responsibility standards. These actions are complemented by assessments of productive capacity, support in pre-certification processes, and active advocacy to promote public policies that foster the sustainability of the avocado sector in Kenya.
Internationally, 2026 will be a pivotal year for Kenyan avocados in key global trade markets. The association will participate in high-impact events such as Fruit Logistica in Berlin, Asia Fruit Logistica in Hong Kong, Fruit Attraction in Madrid, MAC FRUIT in Italy, WorldFood Moscow and Istanbul, as well as trade fairs in the Middle East, India, China, and the United States. These platforms will strengthen trade ties, raise the profile of Kenyan avocados, and facilitate direct contact between exporters and international buyers.
One of the year's key events will be the 6th International African Avocado Congress, held in conjunction with Avocado Africa Expo 2026, in Nairobi. This event positions Kenya as a strategic meeting point for the African and global avocado industry, integrating innovation, trade, technical expertise, and industry discussions. In addition, the Kenya Avo-Tour will take place, an initiative designed to showcase the country's production development and potential firsthand.
The year will close with the Kenya Avocado Industry Excellence Awards, a gala that recognizes the performance of the various stakeholders in the supply chain and reinforces the vision of quality as the central driver of the sector's growth. With this agenda, the Avocado Society of Kenya projects a dynamic 2026, consolidating its role as the leading voice for avocados in the country and reaffirming its commitment to competitive and inclusive agricultural development aligned with the demands of the international market.
