Guatemala is preparing to export more than 15,500 tons of Hass avocados to the United States by 2030.

The country is making progress in obtaining the phytosanitary certification necessary to access the US market, with positive economic projections for local producers.

Guatemala's Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA) has announced that the country is at a crucial stage in its Hass avocado export process to the United States. Currently, the process hinges on the results of a Pest Risk Analysis conducted by the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which is currently receiving feedback. This step is essential for Guatemalan producers to gain access to international markets.

The Plant Health Directorate of the Vice Ministry of Agricultural Health and Regulations (VISAR) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA) plays a key role in this process. This entity is responsible for the registration and inspection of crops and grants phytosanitary certifications to producers who meet international standards. These certifications ensure that Guatemalan Hass avocados meet the necessary requirements for export, opening new economic opportunities for the country's agricultural sector.

The outlook for the future is optimistic. According to data from the Diario de Centro América, Guatemalan producers expect to export at least 15,552.80 tons of Hass avocados to the United States by 2030, driven by growing demand in the North American country. The Guatemalan Exporters Association (Agexport) supports these expectations, highlighting the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food's (MAGA) ongoing efforts to meet all export requirements and reaffirming its commitment to Guatemala's agricultural development.
