Tanzanian avocado exports close the season with good results
The country is consolidating its presence in Europe, the Middle East and India, and is beginning to explore Asian markets with growth potential.
The avocado season in Tanzania is nearing its end with positive results. Harvest volumes have remained at similar or slightly higher levels than last year, driven by orchards reaching productive maturity. The season, which runs from March to September, has been notable for the high quality of the fruit, with large sizes and a dry matter content between 23% and 28%, meeting international standards.
The main destinations have been Europe and the Middle East, where demand for Hass and green-skinned avocados remained stable, while India consolidated its position as an emerging market with consistent orders. Tanzania is also seeking to enter East Asia, especially China, although it faces logistical and phytosanitary challenges due to stricter requirements and longer transit times.
Kenya remains the main competitor in the region, but Tanzania is positioning itself as a reliable alternative thanks to modern plantations, quality control, and investments in certifications. Although the season is nearing its end, shipments continue in reduced volumes, maintaining quality standards until the campaign concludes.
