Hass avocado exports in Morocco: Morocco Foodex explains its role and denies official delays

Moroccan producers celebrate the alleged restriction on the Hass avocado release date by Morocco Foodex, while the organization denies having imposed an official date for the start of the campaign.

In recent days, some Moroccan producers and exporters announced that Morocco Foodex had set October 28 as the launch date for the Hass avocado export campaign. According to these sources, this measure aims to protect the quality and image of Moroccan avocados in international markets. However, a spokesperson for Morocco Foodex clarified that no official restrictions have been imposed, either this season or in previous ones. "The monitoring process in preparation for the start of the 2024/2025 Hass campaign remains unchanged; there is no mandatory launch date," the representative stated.

Morocco Foodex explains that, although they verify the fruit's maturity and dry matter content, they have not delayed shipments due to scheduling issues. Exporters who met the maturity standards were able to export before October 28 without problems, while others have waited until the fruit reached the appropriate conditions for their destination markets. "Meeting the avocado maturity standards ensures quality, and any delays in shipments are solely due to the fruit reaching optimal ripeness," the source commented.

Morocco Foodex emphasizes that its role focuses on ensuring that all agricultural products exported from Morocco, such as avocados and citrus fruits, comply with the regulations of their destination markets. The institution, which does not apply blanket restrictions, evaluates each export case independently to maintain the high quality of Moroccan products abroad.
