Europe imports 40% more avocados than in 2024, with Peru leading the supply
During the close of week 22, the European avocado market remained stable in terms of volume, with an estimated 921 shipments arriving on the continent. This figure represents virtually the same level as the previous week, with a variation of less than 1%. However, when compared to the same period last year, the increase is considerable: 40% more fruit has arrived in Europe this season.
Peru has consolidated its position as the leading supplier to the European market, accounting for 82% of total shipments this week. South Africa trails far behind with 11%, followed by Colombia with 5%, and Brazil with just 2%. Regarding weekly shipments, South Africa stands out with a 38% increase, while Colombia experienced a 16% decrease.
One notable fact was the absence of shipments from Kenya and Tanzania. While the specific reasons are uncertain, it is presumed that logistical delays may be the cause, as both countries still have fruit available.
Regarding prices, variations were observed depending on the caliber and destination. In Rotterdam, the 18-gauge remained unchanged, while the smaller 30-gauge rose by 14%. A similar trend was reported in the Spanish market, where the 30-gauge increased by 21%, while the 18-gauge decreased by 13%.
In summary, Europe is experiencing a period of stable supply but with a clear reorganization in distribution by origin. Peru continues to expand its dominance, South Africa is emerging strongly, and prices are showing signs of strain in the smaller sizes. The occasional absence of some African suppliers adds logistical uncertainty to a season that, for the moment, maintains remarkable dynamism compared to last year.
