Peruvian avocado strengthens its global leadership with sustained growth and a focus on quality

Peru has solidified its position as the world's second-largest exporter of Hass avocados, with over 692,000 tons shipped to 70 international markets. The country aims to continue expanding in Asia, the Americas, and Europe, while promoting sustainability and supporting small-scale producers.

The Peruvian avocado sector is experiencing a historic moment. According to Arturo Medina, general manager of ProHass, exports reached 692,000 tons last season, driven by the opening of new markets such as the Philippines and growth in Asia. This result reflects decades of collaborative work between producers, exporters, and the government, solidifying the Peruvian avocado as synonymous with quality, sustainability, and competitiveness.

Europe remains the primary destination, accounting for 45% of shipments, particularly to the Netherlands, France, and Germany. Meanwhile, the United States represents a growing market, where Peruvian exports are projected to increase by 54% in 2025, despite competition from Mexico and California. At the same time, Asia is emerging as the next major opportunity, with significant growth in Japan, China, and South Korea, and new developing markets such as Taiwan and Vietnam.

Medina emphasized that the sector's success also rests on the shoulders of small producers, who represent 97% of the total in Peru. With technical assistance and modernized irrigation systems, the industry seeks to increase productivity and maintain high quality standards. "The leadership achieved demands responsibility: it's not just about exporting more, but about producing better," the leader stressed.
