Colombian Hass avocados break export records and conquer new markets

In 2024, sales exceeded $300 million, driving growth in the agricultural sector. Antioquia, Risaralda, and Valle del Cauca lead production, solidifying Colombia's position as a key player in global trade.

Colombian Hass avocados are experiencing their best moment in the international market. According to the Colombian National Association of Foreign Trade (Analdex), exports of this fruit reached US$309.4 million in 2024, registering a 54.3% increase compared to the previous year. This boom has benefited thousands of farming families in producing regions such as Antioquia, Risaralda, and Valle del Cauca, where avocado cultivation has partially replaced traditional coffee farming.

The Valle del Cauca region saw the greatest growth in exports, nearly tripling its shipments in a single year, with China as its main buyer. Antioquia and Risaralda also experienced significant increases, solidifying Colombia's position as a reliable supplier of Hass avocados to highly demanding markets such as the Netherlands and the United States.

However, this growth brings challenges. The sector faces logistical difficulties, such as the need to improve road infrastructure for fruit transport and increase the workforce available for harvesting. Furthermore, the industry is seeking innovative solutions to guarantee avocado quality in distant markets like Asia, where preserving the product during transport remains a key challenge.
