US Market – Week 7
The US records 1,573 shipments and rebounds after post-Super Bowl drop
Shipments to the US rose 13% in week 7, with Mexico accounting for 98% of the market and price improvements in large sizes.
The US market showed renewed activity at the close of week 7, with the arrival of approximately 1,573 shipments, representing a 13% increase compared to week 6. This rise reflects the typical behavior observed after the sharp decline following the Super Bowl: after the significant adjustment recorded in week six, volumes return to higher levels.
Mexico continues to clearly dominate the supply to the US market, accounting for 98% of the market share, even slightly higher than the previous week. The remaining countries of origin maintain a marginal presence within the total.
In terms of prices, week 8 showed significant improvements in the larger sizes. Sizes 32 to 40 saw a 7% increase, while size 48 rose 2% and size 60 advanced 4%. Size 84 remained stable, and size 70 experienced a slight decrease of 2%.
From the production side, columnist Antonio Villaseñor noted that this week's harvest is estimated at around 37,000 tons, maintaining a record pace of weekly shipments. He also indicated that California's entry into the market could contribute to improved prices in the coming weeks.
