Colombia Avocado Board elects two new board members

The Colombia Avocado Board (CAB) held its annual meeting to elect two new key members to its Board of Directors. This will boost awareness and consumption of Colombian avocados in the U.S. market.

Brian Gómez, Director of Importers at GreenFruit Avocados, and Kathryn Mejía Vergel, Vice President of the CAB and Director of Corpohass, are joining the nine-member board. Gómez replaces Gerardo Huerta of Del Rey Avocado as Director of Importers, and Mejía succeeds Jorge Restrepo of Corpohass as Vice President.

Manuel Michel, Director General of the JAC, expressed gratitude to the new members: "The Board of Directors of the Colombian Avocado Association congratulates and thanks Mr. Gómez and Ms. Mejía for accepting their appointments." Michel added: "Their participation will be invaluable for another record year of exports."

Colombia has a growing region that allows for continuous avocado production, providing stability for buyers. Since Colombian avocado exports to the U.S. were authorized in 2019, imports have grown, with an estimated 5% increase in Hass avocado production in the last year.

As one of the world's leading exporters, Colombia anticipates increased domestic consumption, creating more opportunities in the national market. This trend reflects the Colombia Avocado Board's commitment to strengthening the presence of Colombian avocados, both locally and internationally.
