California projects one of its biggest avocado harvests in years
Favorable weather, healthy orchards, and experienced growers are driving a promising season, with over 154,000 tons estimated.
The California Avocado Commission (CAC) anticipates that the 2025 harvest will be one of the largest in recent years, thanks to stable weather conditions and improved crop management. While current estimates place the total volume at 154,221 tons—slightly below initial projections—the harvest pace and fruit quality remain optimistic. So far, 53% of the total crop has been harvested, promising a strong second half of the season.
The California Avocado Association (CAC) will continue its robust marketing campaigns in July and August to promote consumption in both supermarkets and foodservice establishments, aiming for a strong finish to the season. While California's share of the domestic market has temporarily declined, the quality of local avocados remains a hallmark. Stable weather and improved agronomic practices have minimized typical risks, ensuring excellent fruit quality.
Internationally, the market remains supplied by Mexico, Peru, Colombia, and California, which has stabilized prices. Peter Shore of Calavo Growers noted that current volumes allow for a steady supply and projected that consumption in the United States will continue to grow in the coming years, fueled by local and South American production. The industry is thus preparing for a period of sustained expansion.
