Avocado Africa 2025 opens in Nairobi: A key congress for the global avocado industry

With attendees from around the world, the International Avocado Congress “Avocado Africa 2025” was officially opened on May 27 at the Sarit Expo Centre in Nairobi, Kenya. This event, considered the most important in Africa for the avocado sector, will run until May 30 and brings together producers, exporters, investors, researchers, and government representatives.

Organized by the Avocado Society of Kenya in partnership with regional and international entities, the congress is being held under the theme “Avocado Africa: A Convergence of Technology and Business for Greater Competitiveness and Trade .” The main objective is to strengthen the avocado value chain through knowledge sharing, technological innovation, and the expansion of international markets.

During the opening ceremony, Kenyan government officials and leaders in the agri-food sector highlighted the strategic role of avocados in the country's economy. Kenya is currently the largest exporter of the fruit in Africa and projects reaching 135,000 tons exported by 2025, with revenues that could exceed $175 million. This projection is supported by favorable weather conditions and growing global demand for the "green gold."

The congress program includes keynote lectures on agricultural productivity, food security, phytosanitary measures, industrialization, genetic resources, health, and gastronomy trends. Trade exhibitions will also be presented by companies from South Africa, China, Italy, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and other countries, showcasing advancements in agrochemicals, processing technology, packaging, and logistics.

Avocado Africa 2025 also includes complementary activities such as technical visits to farms and processing plants, closed seminars for industry professionals and networking events, positioning the congress as a key platform for the competitiveness and sustainable development of avocados internationally.

This year's edition reaffirms Africa's role not only as an exporting power, but also as a benchmark for innovation and global cooperation in the avocado industry.
