Lower volumes and rising prices mark week 5

California production increases and larger sizes improve

Week 5 records 1,827 shipments to the US, with a slight weekly decrease, dominance of Mexico and moderate price adjustments in large sizes.

The US market closes week 5 with an estimated 1,827 shipments expected to arrive during the period. This figure represents an 8% decrease compared to the previous week, although it remains 12% above the volume recorded during the same week last year.

In terms of market share, no significant changes were observed. Mexico continues to hold 97% of the market share, while California contributes approximately 1%, with the remainder coming from other origins with smaller shares. Some volumes arrived from Chile, although not to a level considered significant within the overall market dynamic.

Attention is now turning to California, where shipments increased 39% compared to the previous week. In terms of prices, larger sizes showed a slight improvement: sizes 32 to 40 saw a 5% increase, size 48 rose 7%, and size 60 increased 5%. Smaller sizes remained unchanged in price compared to the previous week.

From an opinion analysis perspective, Antonio Villaseñor noted that prices remain stable at historically low levels, with the expectation of a possible strengthening toward the end of February linked to the arrival of fruit from California, a recurring trend. He also highlighted that shipments destined for the Super Bowl broke records, with a volume 20% higher than last year.

Gary Clevenger noted that the weeks of the so-called "big game" typically combine high unit movement with aggressive average prices and sales, driven by advertising promotions and secondary displays at points of sale.
