Argentina implements new mandatory system for Hass avocado transport
From December 25, the use of the electronic Plant Transit Document (DTV-e) will be mandatory throughout the country, strengthening the traceability and safety of the fruit.
Starting December 25, the transport of fresh Hass avocados in Argentina must be accompanied by an electronic Plant Transit Document (DTV-e), according to a regulation issued by the National Agri-Food Health and Quality Service (Senasa). This measure aims to improve the traceability of the fruit in the domestic market and guarantee its safety, using the Integrated Management System for the Plant Health Transit Document (SIG-DTV).
The Hass variety represents more than 87% of the total avocados sold in the country, with an annual average of 7,539 tons between 2021 and 2023, according to data from the Central Market of Buenos Aires. Although 81% of avocados come from countries such as Chile, Brazil, Peru, Mexico, and Colombia, the Argentine provinces of Tucumán, Jujuy, and Salta contribute a significant portion of local production.
To comply with the new regulations, carriers must be registered with Senasa and have valid permits. This change strengthens controls in the sector, optimizing access to a key product for domestic consumers and trade.
