Anaguacate strengthens its leadership with a new Board of Directors

The Guatemalan Avocado Producers Association (Anaguacate) continues to solidify its role as a key representative of the country's avocado sector. Founded in May 1972, the association has worked for over 50 years to develop and position Guatemalan avocados in the international market. Its main objective is to represent the sector and its needs to promote global recognition of Guatemalan avocados.

Currently, it brings together more than 3,500 producers and five packing companies, with exports reaching more than 10 countries and an annual contribution of over 115 million dollars to the national Gross Domestic Product, representing up to 1.4% of all agricultural activity in Guatemala and 0.14% of the national GDP.

In February 2025, Anaguacate renewed its Board of Directors for the 2025-2026 term, which is led by Francis William Bruderer Mombiela as president. He is joined by Fabian Leoni Najera (vice president), Axel Francisco Castellanos (treasurer), Milton Molina (secretary), Pedro González Orejuela (secretary of internal affairs), Armando Vidal Sandoval (secretary of public relations), Alejandro Bolaños (secretary of processing and industrialization affairs), Andrés Rodolfo Espinoza (secretary of cultural and scientific affairs), Francisco Viteri García Gallont (secretary of marketing affairs), and Alejandra Tumax as executive director.

Anaguacate provides a variety of services to its members, including agricultural consulting, trade association representation, courses and training, newsletters, national and international events, and guidance on entering new markets. Its work focuses on four strategic pillars: representation, opening new markets, sustainability, and quality.

Currently, Guatemala has approximately 7,000 hectares of Hass avocados dedicated to export, with projections to expand to 15,000-20,000 hectares in the coming years. The 2024-2025 season will close with approximately 300 containers shipped to Europe, with an estimated growth of 18% to 20% in the following season. Furthermore, by 2025, shipments of 10 to 15 containers of Hass avocados to the United States are projected for the first quarter of the year. Since 2018, Guatemalan avocado exports have grown from US$2.21 million to US$15.8 million in 2023, reflecting increased investment and improved product quality.

One of Anaguacate's fundamental pillars is the creation of strategic alliances that drive the sector's growth. In this regard, the association has established a collaboration with Avobook, the leading platform for avocado market information. This alliance will allow Guatemalan producers to access up-to-date data, market trends, and real-time business opportunities, strengthening the competitiveness of Guatemalan avocados globally.

With renewed leadership, innovative collaboration strategies, and a focus on expansion and quality, Anaguacate is positioning itself as a key player in the international avocado industry, ensuring a promising future for Guatemalan producers on the global stage.
