Moroccan avocados are starting to gain ground in Europe
A total of 617 shipments of avocados arrived in the European market. This represents a 13% increase compared to the previous week, but remains below (-9%) the figure for the same period last year.
As we anticipated in the previous report, market shares are beginning to shift, and therefore, countries that are lowering the number of arrivals are being compensated by the increase from those that are starting their harvests at this point in the season.
In this case, Morocco's harvest has allowed it to greatly increase its influence, with 111 containers, compensating for the decline in Chile (-12%), Colombia (-10%) and a Peru that is practically arriving with the remainder of the season, with only 7 arrivals, which is 56% less than last week.
However, these situations do not significantly alter the distribution of players in the market share, with Chile leading shipments received in Europe at 35%, followed by Colombia (24%), Morocco (18%), Israel (15%), and South Africa (6%). Peru, Spain, and Mexico lag considerably behind, each accounting for less than 1%.
Prices show slight differences between the two landing zones, mainly for smaller sizes. In Spain, prices have fallen by 18%, but are $0.80 higher than the price traded in the Netherlands.
Contrary to projections, larger avocados are showing price decreases. This is the case with size 18 avocados, which saw an 11% drop in price in the Netherlands and a 13% decrease in Spain. Prices for other avocados remained unchanged compared to last week.
