Chilean avocados dominate Europe at peak arrivals

This week, 616 containers of avocados arrived in Europe. This is 17% more than last week, but it is below what we saw on the same date in 2023 (-11%).

This is the peak time for arrivals from Chile, allowing its fruit to lead the market share with 53%. This is because arrivals from that country increased by 51% compared to the previous week.

Colombia follows with 19%, but it is known that its shipments will begin to increase in the coming weeks, since in the current week, its volume in this market shows a drop of 24%.

Israel is also growing its presence on the continent, now holding an 11% market share. Following behind are avocados from South Africa, Spain, and the latest arrivals from Peru; while Kenya has practically disappeared from the scene.

The projection for the coming weeks is that Chile's share will decrease, Colombia's will grow significantly, and the presence of fruit from Spain and Israel will gradually increase. Additionally, the first containers from Morocco will begin arriving next week, further diversifying the European market.

Prices are falling for smaller sizes, according to the Amsterdam port and distribution center. Size 30 has dropped by 25%, and this downward trend is expected to become even more pronounced in the coming days for smaller fruit sizes.

The same is not true for other sizes. One example is the 18 gauge, which saw a 13% weekly price increase.
