The 10th Jalisco Avocado Congress 2026 has confirmed its official program and is preparing to bring together producers, exporters, researchers, and representatives from the international industry from August 26-28 in Ciudad Guzmán, Jalisco. Organized by the Jalisco Avocado Producers and Exporters Association (APEAJAL), the event will take place at the new Casino Auditorium venue and will feature technical conferences, market analysis, field tours, and networking activities focused on the main current challenges facing the avocado sector.

The program includes the participation of specialists from Mexico, Peru, the United States, Chile, Colombia, and Spain, who will address topics related to international trade, sustainability, genetics, diseases, productivity, and agronomic management. In addition, the congress will include a field workshop organized by APEAJAL, tours of the expo area, and a welcome cocktail reception for attendees.

One of the central themes of the event will be the performance of the international Hass avocado market. That same day, Giovanni Cavaletto, from Grupo Los Cerritos GLC USA, will address the impact of sustainability and trade pressures in the American market, while Manuel Michel, from the Colombia Avocado Board, will share the experience of Colombian Hass avocados in international markets, particularly in North America.

Productive resilience in the face of climate change will also be a key focus of the program. Alejandro Facundo Barrientos Priego, from the Autonomous University of Chapingo, will present a lecture on avocado genetic diversity as a strategic tool in the face of adverse climate scenarios. Similarly, Patricia Manosalva, from the University of California, Riverside, will speak about leveraging genetic and genomic resources to develop rootstocks resistant to the main production challenges of the crop.

The technical sessions will also include presentations focused on plant health, productivity, and agronomic management. Salvador Ochoa Ascencio, from the Michoacan University of San Nicolás de Hidalgo, will analyze the current state of avocado diseases in Mexico and the available control strategies. Following this, Romina Gazis, from the University of Florida, will address the threat of laurel wilt to commercial avocado production.

The program also includes presentations on flowering, pollination, and fruit set by Iñaki Hormaza Urroz; nutritional solutions for the crop presented by Luis José Montgomery Taboada; and a conference on the current importance of the avocado branch borer, Macrocopturus aguacatae, in the Mexican industry, led by Armando Equihua Martínez. In addition, there will be talks on self-propelled mechanical pruning and smart pruning in avocados, focusing on productive efficiency and orchard management.

The official program will begin on Wednesday, August 26, with registration, opening activities, and the first technical conferences; it will continue on Thursday, August 27, with field practice and specialized sessions on productivity and health; and it will end on Friday, August 28, with presentations focused on international markets and productive management, concluding with the official closing of the event.
