Chile reaches record imports of Peruvian avocados
Chile sets a three-year record for avocado imports from Peru, although the larger volume puts downward pressure on prices.

Chile is absorbing more Peruvian avocados than in the previous two seasons. Avobook data shows that, during 2026, shipments from Peru to the Chilean market reached the highest volume recorded for the analyzed period, consolidating a season marked by a more abundant supply and a different commercial behavior than that observed in 2025.
According to data recorded up to week 28, Peru has shipped 2,320 truckloads/containers to Chile. This figure represents a 41% increase compared to the 1,647 shipments recorded by the same date last year and also surpasses the 2024 figure of 2,284 truckloads/containers, which until now constituted the highest volume for the period.
The difference begins to become visible from weeks 11 and 12, when shipments accelerate their growth compared to the previous year. However, the greatest contrast is observed between weeks 17 and 26. During that period, Peru regularly shipped between 150 and 190 truckloads/containers per week, while in 2025 volumes remained mostly between 50 and 125 units.
The largest difference is concentrated between weeks 21 and 24, when shipments in 2026 exceeded those recorded in the same period last year by more than 50 truckloads per week. Even compared to 2024, a season that also showed strong performance, 2026 managed to maintain a high flow of fruit to the Chilean market for more consecutive weeks.
The composition of the supply also maintains a relatively stable pattern. The main imports are Peruvian avocados of sizes 14 to 18, which account for the majority of shipments to Chile.
However, the sharp increase in volume has not translated into improved market prices. After starting the season near US$2.70/kg, average prices gradually declined, stabilizing in a range of around US$1.65-1.75/kg. Compared to 2025, prices have remained at similar levels and even slightly lower for several weeks.
This behavior reflects that the increase in Peruvian supply has been absorbed by the Chilean market without generating a price recovery. On the contrary, the greater availability of fruit has maintained constant pressure on prices, resulting in a season in which volume growth has been accompanied by a more commercially competitive market.
In short, the 2026 outlook confirms Chile's strategic importance as a key destination with high absorption capacity for Peruvian avocados in South America. However, price trends highlight the industry's main challenge: managing record volumes without eroding profit margins, in a scenario where abundant fruit continues to dictate supply and define the price ceiling in the local market.
