We're getting ready for Avocado Territory

Colombia

October 28, 2026

Week 44 and we're getting ready for Avocado Territory. As we've been discussing, exports of our beloved Colombian avocados remain stable, but are expected to adjust slightly downward. The statistics show that 95% of exports go to the European market, which continues to be our main destination. So far this year, Europe has already reached 90% of our exports.

In the field, we continue to see purchase offers being revised downwards. The reasons emerging are related to a slight increase in larger sizes, but there is still a lot of small and medium-sized fruit available.

Let's pause and consider what would need to happen in Colombia for things to change. The fact is, a lot of unripe fruit (with low dry matter content) is still being harvested. We need to bring this to the attention of the entire supply chain so that next year in Berlin, we aren't crucified for the quality or ripeness of Colombia's main harvest exports.

On average, fruit in the field, with all the necessary certifications, is being paid at $2,700 per kilo. The dollar has rebounded slightly, while the euro has fallen 3% compared to the previous week, a fact that puts a bit more pressure on exporters' figures.

Regarding sizes, large ones account for approximately 20%, medium ones 45%, and small ones 35%. In terms of prices, according to exporters' proposals compared to the previous week, large ones are down 4%, at approximately $4,800 per kilo; medium ones are down 11%, with a weighted average of $3,000 per kilo; and small ones have plummeted 13%, reaching $1,600 per kilo.

Next week we'll be attending the most important avocado event in South America, Territorio Aguacate. We'll be there to listen to the stakeholders in the supply chain and see how they view the progress of Colombia's main harvest.
