Peru boosts its global leadership with a focus on Asia
Peruvian avocado exports are growing, with a focus on Asia, frozen products, and new value-added formats.

The Peruvian avocado industry is experiencing a period of growth and diversification. During the first four months of 2026, fresh avocado exports increased by 20% in value and 13% in volume, solidifying Peru's position as one of the most important players in the global market. However, the sector also faces new challenges related to climate change and the need to sustain growth in the long term.
David Sandoval, CEO of Fluctuante, explained that rising temperatures are already beginning to affect avocado flowering, although the greatest impact of El Niño is expected between August and November. Faced with this scenario, the industry is driving expansion into new production areas in the northern and central Andean regions of the country, seeking to reduce risks and ensure a more stable supply in the coming seasons.
Meanwhile, frozen avocados are consolidating their position as one of the fastest-growing segments within the business. In 2025, exports of this format surpassed US$100 million for the first time, and so far in 2026 they have maintained strong growth, with increases of 32% in value and 14% in volume. According to Sandoval, industrialization is no longer seen as a threat and now represents a strategic opportunity to utilize fruit that does not meet the aesthetic standards for fresh produce but retains high internal quality.
Asia is now emerging as the primary focus for Peruvian avocado exports. While Europe continues to lead in shipments, markets like China, Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea are gaining prominence thanks to new logistical connections facilitated by the port of Chancay. This is further supported by a strategy aimed at developing higher value-added products, such as oils, gourmet formats, and solutions tailored to new consumption habits, in line with international demand for convenient, healthy, and distinctive foods.
