Baika's Leyda Valley Field: 413 hectares of Hass avocados for Chile and the world

Baika, with over 35 years of experience in the agricultural sector, has established itself as a leader in crop management and development throughout Chile. Its commitment to continuous improvement and a corporate culture focused on excellence have been fundamental pillars of its leadership. In this context, Valle Leyda represents both a unique challenge and opportunity within its portfolio of farms, facing specific conditions that demand a specialized approach to sustainability and productive efficiency.

Located in Santo Domingo, in the Valparaíso Region, Valle Leyda stands out for its late-season production strategy, which requires a balance between profitability and long-term sustainability. Unlike the challenges related to water management in the north or the large-scale projects developed in Rapel, this farm focuses on maximizing technical efficiency and taking full advantage of the available market window. With 413 hectares planted exclusively with Hass avocados, the farm is an example of specialization and resource optimization.

One of Valle Leyda's core principles is its commitment to sustainability. The implementation of environmentally responsible practices not only ensures efficient production but also contributes to carbon sequestration through more than 520,000 trees, fostering a balanced ecosystem. This environmental approach is supported by international certifications such as GLOBALG.AP, GRASP, FSMA, SPRING, LEAF MARQUE, and NURTURE, which guarantee compliance with the highest quality and safety standards in all processes.

In the area of innovation, Valle Leyda maintains a vision of continuous improvement and adaptation to new technologies. Currently, in collaboration with the University of Concepción, an advanced study is underway to analyze the metabolic effects of organic matter applied to crops. This project aims to optimize the technical management of the orchard, reducing dependence on chemical treatments and enhancing tree growth through a comprehensive approach based on crop physiology.

Valle Leyda's future goals are aligned with its strategy to consolidate its position as a sustainable and highly productive orchard. The aim is to strengthen its supply capacity during the late marketing window, ensuring a consistent supply of quality fruit without compromising orchard health. Modernizing planted areas and implementing innovative technologies will be key to guaranteeing its long-term viability.

Beyond its productivity and sustainability, Valle Leyda embodies a work philosophy based on respect for nature and the understanding that each tree responds to its environment and management. This commitment to ecological balance and operational excellence is what allows the farm to thrive, ensuring its market relevance and reaffirming Baika's position as a leader in the agricultural export industry.
