Baika: Innovation and sustainability in avocado cultivation in Pintacura

In the heart of the Choapa Valley, Baika has established itself as a leader in Chilean agribusiness, particularly in avocado cultivation. With over 30 years of experience, the company has expanded its presence from the IV to the X region of Chile and has established operations in several countries worldwide, solidifying its position as one of the giants of the agricultural sector in the country.

A Valley with Potential

The Pintacura orchard is distinguished by its exceptional climatic conditions, which favor the development of high-quality crops. Optimal temperatures between 28 and 30 degrees Celsius, combined with ideal relative humidity, provide a favorable environment for avocados to thrive. This competitive advantage not only translates into better quality fruit but is also reflected in the high yields achieved by the trees.

However, the path is not without its challenges. The sustainability of the farm is a priority, and Baika faces the need to secure water resources, optimize water use, and properly manage production costs. These are just some of the strategies the company is implementing to ensure its long-term viability.

Crop diversity and sustainability

Pintacura covers a total of 214 hectares, 206 of which are dedicated to avocado cultivation, but it also includes vineyards, olive groves, and a recently established cherry orchard. Regarding sustainability, the company has adopted practices that promote energy efficiency and environmental stewardship, such as the use of renewable energy sources and responsible water management. Furthermore, it actively participates in reforestation initiatives and programs to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Baika's commitment to quality and sustainability is supported by several internationally recognized certifications, including GLOBALG.AP, GRASP, and Fair Trade. These accreditations not only meet legal requirements but also open doors to new markets and strengthen the company's reputation as a reliable supplier.

Innovation is a fundamental pillar at Pintacura. Currently, the company is developing a cherry production project and experimenting with olive oil and winemaking. These initiatives aim to diversify its product offerings and adapt to market demands, which is crucial in such a dynamic sector.

Ambitious goals for the future

Looking ahead to the 2025 season, Baika aims to achieve a production of approximately 2,200,000 kg, equivalent to about 10,000 kg per hectare. In the long term, the goal is to increase total production to between 3,500,000 and 4,000,000 kg. To achieve this, soil management and pruning strategies that have proven effective in crop recovery are being implemented.

The company wishes to express its gratitude to its customers and partners for the trust they have placed in it over the years. Baika prides itself on maintaining high standards of quality, always striving to meet and exceed the expectations of its consumers. With a clear focus on the future, the company continues to invite everyone to choose its products, reaffirming its commitment to excellence in the agribusiness sector.
