Avocado Africa 2026 brings together the global industry in Nairobi

The congress is taking place this week in Kenya with a focus on avocado production, logistics, technology and exports.

The 6th International Avocado Africa 2026 Congress is currently underway in Nairobi, Kenya, solidifying its position as one of the most important gatherings for the global avocado and fresh fruit industry. The event began on Tuesday, May 26th at the Sarit Expo Centre and will run until Friday, May 29th, bringing together producers, exporters, technology companies, shipping companies, government officials, and diplomatic representatives from various countries.

Organized by the Avocado Society of Kenya, the congress focuses on innovation, efficiency and sustainability within the global avocado chain, addressing topics related to productivity, post-harvest, logistics, financing, industrialization and market access.

The official opening will include the participation of representatives from the Kenyan Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, along with diplomatic delegations from Peru, Mexico, China, and Israel. Among the invited authorities are the Peruvian Ambassador to Kenya, Romy Tincopa, as well as representatives from countries that currently play a strategic role in the international avocado trade.

During the first day, activities are focused on production and productivity, with presentations from nurseries, producers, biotechnology companies, and agricultural specialists involved in the development of the African industry. Panels are also being held on processing, exports, and value-added, including the participation of processing plants and regional exporters.

Technology, logistics and post-harvest set the agenda

The program on Wednesday and Thursday features a significant portion of the event's technical and commercial seminars. Sessions cover topics such as post-harvest handling, fruit management, certifications, industrial technologies, and export solutions. International companies involved in machinery, packaging, oils, processing, and quality control participate in the exhibitions and technical panels.

One of the main focuses of the congress is international logistics and maritime transport, given Africa's growth as a global supplier of avocados in recent years. On Thursday, presentations will cover ports, refrigerated transport, maritime services, and financing for exporters, with participation from international shipping companies and logistics operators.

The event also includes trade shows throughout the week, as well as networking dinners, private seminars, and meetings between exporters and importers. The program will conclude on Friday with an "Avo-Tour," where attendees will visit industry-related operations in Kenya.

Kenya seeks to consolidate its leading role as an exporter

Holding the congress in Nairobi reflects Kenya's growth within the global avocado industry. The country is currently one of Africa's leading exporters and continues to expand its shipments to Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. International logistics companies like MSC highlight that Kenya's annual production has already surpassed 585,000 tons and maintains strong export growth.

The congress also brings together companies from multiple countries, including Italy, the Netherlands, Uganda, Tanzania, Portugal and Jordan, consolidating Avocado Africa as a business and technology transfer platform for the entire fruit and vegetable chain of the continent.

The 2026 edition will feature exhibitions, technical conferences, networking opportunities, and participation from companies involved in genetics, bio-inputs, machinery, certifications, logistics, and international trade. According to the organizers, the goal is to further strengthen Africa's competitiveness in the global avocado market.
