PROHASS and ESAN signed an agreement to enhance the business vision of Hass avocado producers

  • Market research and scientific studies will be conducted.
  • More than 27,000 Hass avocado producers will benefit, 90% of whom are small producers.
Lima, July 18, 2024 - The Association of Hass Avocado Producers and Exporters of Peru (ProHass) and ESAN University today signed a framework agreement for inter-institutional cooperation with the aim of making the knowledge and business vision imparted by this renowned higher education institution available to Hass avocado producers, as well as its scientific activity and research that promote the competitiveness, productivity and sustainability of the avocado industry in Peru.

It is worth mentioning that this agreement will allow for the joint development of several topics, such as market research on Hass avocados, the impact on the economy of small farmers in Peru, and the per capita consumption of Hass avocados in the country.

The agreement was signed by the president of the Association of Hass Avocado Producers and Exporters of Peru (ProHass), Juan Carlos Paredes Rosales, and the rector of ESAN University, Jaime Félix Serida Nishimura, who agreed that this alliance between the business sector and academia is very beneficial not only for the avocado industry, but also for the agro-export sector, one of the main pillars of the country's economy.

Juan Carlos Paredes emphasized that this agreement has been signed at the most opportune moment, when Peruvian agricultural exports are changing and seeking to be more internationally competitive.

He noted that the beneficiaries will be the more than 27,000 Hass avocado producers, 90% of whom are small producers with a maximum of two hectares, who will have access to the knowledge generated from joint work and cooperation in the academic fields, teaching, research, scientific cooperation, among other aspects.

He emphasized that ProHass provides its members with all the necessary technical support, and with ESAN's participation, they will now have a business perspective. "From a business standpoint, there is a gap that ESAN is filling with its Master's in Agribusiness, but there is still much to be done," noted the president of ProHass.

For his part, the rector of ESAN said that for them it is very important to work hand in hand with the business sector and with this agreement what is being done, to some extent, is to formalize the work that was already being done through the Master's in Agribusiness.

He specified that this cooperation will be extended to different fields of action, including the development of research activities and also the dissemination of information.
