Avocado producers from Limatambo achieve record exports at Expo Perú Los Andes
Farmers in the Limatambo district of Anta province (Cusco) have achieved an unprecedented milestone by securing the export of 1,000 tons of avocados to international markets. This accomplishment was finalized during their participation in Expo Perú Los Andes, recently held in Ayacucho, where they signed trade agreements with businesspeople from Costa Rica, Chile, and the United States.
Yván Chávez Dorado, head of the Avocado Project at the Regional Agricultural Management Office of the Cusco Regional Government, highlighted the importance of these agreements for local producers. According to Chávez, these advances not only benefit farmers in Limatambo, but also other avocado-producing communities, such as Mollepata, which are currently expanding their international markets. Expo Perú Los Andes has been key in this process, allowing producers to broaden their commercial horizons, especially towards Costa Rica, where demand for Limatambo avocados is on the rise.
In addition to supporting participation in trade fairs and negotiations, the regional government is providing ongoing technical assistance to ensure the quality of exported products. This support includes a certification process that will allow producers to export smoothly. The agreements reached could generate up to 80 million soles in revenue, thus strengthening the local economy and promoting sustainable agricultural development in the region.
