Digitalization drives efficiency and sustainability in Chilean avocado production

The Chilean Avocado Committee implemented the MIIDO platform, an artificial intelligence tool that operates on WhatsApp, to optimize traceability and agricultural management on three farms in the country. This initiative marks a decisive step toward the digital transformation of the fruit sector.

The integration of artificial intelligence into Chilean agriculture is moving beyond mere promise and beginning to show concrete results. The Chilean Avocado Committee presented the progress achieved with MIIDO, a platform that allows for the real-time recording and analysis of field data, integrating audio, text, and photos directly from WhatsApp. This tool has improved operational efficiency, traceability, and information management for three agricultural producers in the country.

MIIDO acts as a digital assistant capable of collecting data, detecting record-keeping gaps, and generating automated reports. Its implementation has allowed producers to move from manual note-taking to digital dashboards, strengthening processes such as harvesting, quality control, irrigation, and pest management. “Technology must be our ally to produce better and demonstrate this with data,” stated the Committee's Executive President, Francisco Contardo Sfeir.

Experience has shown that digitalization not only improves productivity but also contributes to the sector's sustainability. By recording and analyzing each stage of the production process, farmers can optimize resource use, ensure transparency, and strengthen the international image of Chilean avocados. According to the Committee, the next step is to expand the use of these tools to more producers, driving a digital transformation that keeps Chilean agriculture at the forefront of technology.
