Jalisco, Mexico, reaches a new record in avocado exports despite adverse weather conditions
Eleazar Oceguera, president of APEAJAL, shares that Jalisco will close the season with approximately 120,000 tons of avocados exported, showing continuous growth in export volumes.
Jalisco has experienced steady growth in its avocado exports, with a significant increase compared to the 95,000 tons exported last season. This year, a greater volume and size of fruit are expected, as the state is better prepared to face adverse weather conditions.
Faced with market saturation due to the export of smaller fruit, Jalisco is seeking to diversify its markets. The intention is to direct some of its volume to Japan and Europe, where prices are typically higher. This strategy aims to mitigate the risks associated with relying on a single market.
Thanks to Mexico's high avocado production volume, the country can fill market gaps left by other avocado-producing nations. Jalisco is looking to expand its exports to countries like China, South Korea, India, and Malaysia, taking advantage of growing demand in these markets. China, for example, has already approved all phytosanitary conditions for Mexican avocados, and exports are expected to begin soon once the corresponding protocol is signed.
