Israel increases its avocado shipments to Europe with competitive prices

Israel is experiencing a successful avocado harvest season, with a significant increase in volume compared to last year. Despite the abundant supply, prices and demand have remained strong in the European market. Eitan Zvi, Vice President of Marketing for Galilee Export in Israel, notes that the export market remains robust, contributing to a positive season and campaign so far, and this trend is expected to continue.

As Israel enters the final quarter of its avocado season, which began last October, the fruitful harvest is proving to be exceptional. Total production for the 2023/24 season is estimated at around 240,000 tons, with 40% destined for the domestic market and 60% for export. With favorable winter conditions and ideal flowering periods, growers note that this year is outstanding in terms of volume.

Europe remains the primary export market for Israeli avocados, although other African countries have increased their production to fill the gap in the local market that Israel used to occupy. While Israeli avocados have limited access to Asian markets, with exceptions such as Japan, shipments are mainly focused on Eastern Europe and Russia, with Germany, France, and the UK being key markets. Zvi points out that, despite the challenges, the current season surpasses the previous one in both quality and price.
