India is betting on premium avocados: Maluma consolidates his position in Nashik

Fratelli Fruits successfully cultivates the South African variety in Maharashtra, marking a turning point for Indian agriculture with a view to the local and export market.

Fratelli Fruits Farmer Producer Company has taken a historic step by cultivating the Maluma avocado variety for the first time in Nashik. This variety is renowned for its creamy texture, high yield, and superior quality. Harish More, the company's vice president, explained that after scientifically evaluating the Hass, Zutano, and a local Indian variety, Maluma, the latter far surpassed the others in productivity and earliness, standing out as the most promising for the region's conditions.

According to More, the success lies in precision agriculture adapted to Nashik's terrain and climate. Practices such as deep subsoiling, efficient drainage, controlled irrigation, strategic pruning, and integrated pest management maximized plant health and fruit quality. Furthermore, the Maluma variety demonstrated significant commercial advantages over others, such as earlier ripening and reduced maintenance requirements, making it a viable option for replacing traditional crops like grapes and pomegranates.

Fratelli's commitment goes beyond a pilot project: they aim to transform Maharashtra's agricultural landscape and meet the growing urban demand for premium avocados. "This is a sustainable agriculture project with high export potential," says More. The combination of technology, varietal adaptation, and commercial vision positions the Maluma avocado as a new strategic alternative for production diversification in India.
