Unifrutti Group acquired Bomarea and Avoamerica in Peru to continue its Latin American expansion

Unifrutti, the producer controlled by Abu Dhabi's sovereign wealth fund, continues to expand its presence in Latin America with the acquisition of Bomarea and AvoAmerica in Peru. These two new acquisitions represent a significant step for Unifrutti in its growth and diversification strategy in the region.

Both newly acquired companies specialize in avocado and blueberry cultivation, two new markets for Unifrutti, which previously acquired Verfrut in January. This series of acquisitions underscores Unifrutti's commitment to deepening its presence in the fruit industry and exploring new business opportunities in Latin America.

With an annual distribution of 500,000 metric tons of fresh fruit worldwide, Unifrutti has been under the control of ADQ since 2022, when Abu Dhabi's sovereign wealth fund decided to focus on agriculture as a strategy to increase its financial gains and improve food security in the UAE.

Karl Stehelin de Taisne, director of strategy and mergers and acquisitions at Unifrutti, emphasizes the importance of Latin America as a key region for fruit exports, especially to the United States, Europe, and China. This focus on Latin America is part of a broader global strategy for Unifrutti to expand in markets where it already has a presence and fill gaps in key products through mergers and acquisitions.

Stehelin de Taisne also mentioned that “Mexico is a very interesting producing region. We need to evaluate the best way to penetrate the country in terms of production and supply, of berries and avocados, for example.” With Peru as a starting point, Unifrutti is prepared to continue growing and strengthening its position in the Latin American fruit industry.
