Governor of Michoacán prohibits the sale of avocados from illegal orchards

During the visit of the United States Ambassador, Ken Salazar, to the State of Michoacán, Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla highlighted the importance of addressing crucial issues such as security, trade and the environment.

The Forest Guardian program was highlighted, which has revealed the loss of more than 30,000 hectares between 2018 and 2023 due to land-use change, with 817 avocado orchards operating illegally. In response, the incorporation of an environmental guide into the Mexico-United States avocado import protocol was announced, in collaboration with Senasica, the USDA, and other entities.

The U.S. ambassador expressed his support for this initiative, emphasizing that illegal producers should not have access to the U.S. market. This joint effort reflects a shared commitment to addressing environmental and trade challenges in the region.
