Success in the Tanzanian avocado season and growth prospects in the Indian market

Abdul Kadir Memon, director of Abacate International, shares the success of the third season of Tanzanian avocados and the growth prospects in the Indian market, highlighting the increase in volumes and the growing demand.

Memon highlights that the Tanzanian avocado season has been promising, with a strong focus on increasing volumes. In the first quarter, they achieved a market share of 29%, exceeding expectations. Although there were price fluctuations at the beginning of the year, these decreased sooner than anticipated due to the influx of new arrivals. Competitive prices are expected going forward, ensuring affordability for consumers.

Memon notes a growing interest in avocados among health-conscious Indian consumers. Demand has increased thanks to a growing awareness of the fruit's health benefits and versatility. Significant volume growth is expected this year, with an unwavering commitment to growth and excellence in the Indian avocado market.

With the arrival of Australian avocados to the Indian market, Memon is excited about the opportunities this presents. The superior quality of Australian avocados positions them to capture a significant market share, especially in the demanding premium segment. The availability of supply from three key origins (Tanzania, Kenya, and Australia) ensures a consistent and diversified flow of avocados throughout the year in India, mitigating the risks associated with relying on a single source.
