National survey to improve avocado disease management in the United States

The University of Florida is leading a survey to better understand how avocado growers manage diseases that threaten their crops, such as bay wilt and Phytophthora root rot.

Avocado production in the United States faces ongoing challenges due to diseases that can cause significant crop damage if not properly controlled. Despite existing research, much remains to be discovered about how growers make disease management decisions and the economic costs and benefits of the various options available.

The survey, conducted in collaboration with universities across the country, aims to gather critical data on producers' decision-making, economic implications, and management strategies. This will enable the development of more effective and sustainable strategies tailored to the unique circumstances of each state.

The participation of all members of the avocado industry is essential to the success of this survey. The results will help improve current practices and contribute to the future management of these diseases that threaten avocado production in the United States.
