From Colima to the world: the expansion of Coliman Avocados and its family legacy in the avocado industry

Since its beginnings in the 1960s as a banana exporter, Coliman has established itself as one of the most recognized companies in the Mexican avocado sector. Its growth has been sustained by innovation, quality, and a family vision that has transcended generations.

Coliman's story began in the 1960s, when Mr. Custodio Aguilar Málaga founded the company in the state of Colima, exporting bananas. Over time, his children spearheaded the company's expansion into northwestern Mexico, opening distribution centers in Hermosillo, Tijuana, and Mexicali. This growth marked the beginning of a business trajectory based on quality, consistency, and close customer relationships—values that continue to guide the brand today.

In 1990, the Aguilar family decided to venture into the avocado business from Santa Clara del Cobre, Michoacán, one of the country's most renowned avocado-producing regions. The surge in domestic consumption and the subsequent opening of international markets in the United States, Japan, and Canada solidified Coliman Avocados' export trajectory. Currently, the company maintains a strong presence in North America and the Middle East, supported by long-standing business relationships and a reputation for reliability.

Today, Coliman avocados are grown in Michoacán and Jalisco under strict quality and sustainability standards, with 10% of their production certified as organic. The company continues to invest in infrastructure, efficiency, and technology, reaffirming its commitment to responsible growth and excellence. “We carry a name and a tradition that we are proud to honor,” says Sergio Paz, CEO of Coliman Avocados, reflecting the family spirit that continues to guide the brand's success in global markets.
