20% growth in exports: Hass avocado stands out in Colombia

Hass avocados are establishing themselves as a major export driver in Colombia, representing a 20% growth in the industry, according to experts. With 3,615 farms registered for cultivating this fruit, a significant increase in production is expected, reflecting the continued rise of this variety in the international market.

Currently, Hass avocados rank third among Colombia's most exported agricultural products, after bananas and plantains, and are second in terms of revenue generated for the country. Last year, a record 5,125.5 forty-foot containers were exported, marking a 26.4% increase compared to the previous year.

Katheryn Mejía Vergel, executive director of Corpohass, highlighted the importance of this achievement for the sector, emphasizing its benefits for both the national economy and the well-being of producers and collaborators in the export sector.

With 33,500 hectares dedicated to Hass avocado cultivation, leading production regions such as Antioquia, Risaralda, Caldas, Valle del Cauca, Huila, Tolima, and Quindío are joining forces to expand their presence in the United States, Europe, and Asia markets, as well as to promote domestic consumption and explore new opportunities for processed products.
