The 2024 avocado export season begins with the official announcement from SENASA

The National Agrarian Health Service (Senasa) officially launched the highly anticipated 2024 avocado campaign, marking a key milestone for Peru in its quest to remain the world's second largest exporter of this prized product, second only to Mexico.

The launch, carried out in collaboration with the Provincial Municipality of La Mar in Ayacucho, was a prominent event attended by regional and local authorities, as well as representatives from the Association of Hass Avocado Producers and Exporters of Peru (ProHass) and various agro-export companies. This event not only marked the start of the campaign but also served as a platform to train local farmers on vital topics such as production site certification and avocado pest management.

Miguel Quevedo, head of Senasa, emphasized the importance of collaboration between the private sector and the institution he represents to improve the phytosanitary conditions of crops and expand the participation of small producers in the agricultural export chain. He also stressed Senasa's ongoing commitment to opening new markets for the benefit of rural families.

The 2023 season was a clear indicator of the country's agricultural export potential, with a significant increase in avocado exports, primarily of the Hass variety, which accounted for 94% of total exports. This year, the aim is to maintain this positive trend with a focus on market diversification and continued support for producers throughout the country.
